Má Vlast / Mein Vaterland / My Fatherland
A symphonic poem taking the form of a radiophonic road movie
2008
Hitchhiking through Austria I ask people to drive me to those places that, according to them, sound best. On the road we discuss such a project’s potential merits (if any) and I record it all. Thus a sonic portrait of places people live in as well as a social portrait of how they relate to their sound environment emerges. Developing further the concept of the great romantic and nationalistic poème symphonique, ones homeland’s beauty is now not only ‘translated’ into music, but its sounds are directly transfixed onto media.
